New Clinical Evidence Available: BioGlue is the leading surgical adhesive used in cardiovascular surgery around the world. Composed of purified bovine serum albumin (BSA) and glutaraldehyde, BioGlue has been used in more than 600,000 surgical procedures since its launch in 1998. The two glue components are dispensed by a controlled delivery system comprising a double-chambered syringe, applicator tips, and optional extender applicator tips. Once dispensed, the adhesive components are mixed within the applicator tip where the cross-linking begins. The glutaraldehyde molecules bond with the BSA molecules and, upon application to the tissue proteins at the repair site, create a flexible mechanical seal independent of the body's clotting mechanism. BioGlue begins to polymerize within 20 to 30 seconds and reaches its bonding strength within two minutes. BioGlue also adheres to synthetic graft materials through mechanical bonding within the interstices of the graft matrix. BioGlue® Surgical Adhesive is used in a wide range of cardiac reconstruction procedures. The strength of the product assures the surgeon that delicate tissues are well reinforced and assists to control bleeding in complex surgery. BioGlue Syringe The all-inclusive packaging saves time and space, and the design of the syringe increases access and visualization of the target site. FDA Approval CE Mark Approval CryoLife has shipped more than 900,000 units of BioGlue to over 70 countries since its market introduction in 1998. Please refer to the

BioGlue has been awarded three CE marks for its use in cardiac and vascular repair, pulmonary repair and soft tissue repair. BioGlue is indicated for use as an adjunct to standard methods of surgical repair (such as sutures, staples, electrocautery, and/or patches) to bond, seal, and/or reinforce soft tissue. BioGlue may also be applied alone to seal and/or reinforce damaged parenchyma when other ligature or conventional procedures are ineffective or impractical. Indicated soft tissues are cardiac, vascular, pulmonary, genitourinary, dural, alimentary (esophageal, gastrointestinal, and colorectal), and other abdominal tissues (pancreatic, splenic, hepatic, biliary). Additionally, BioGlue is used in the fixation of surgical meshes in hernia repair.
